MTN Nigeria has teamed up with filmmaker Omoni Oboli to launch seven Christmas movies. This partnership is meant to promote Nigerian stories and make local entertainment easier for people to enjoy.
The films were revealed at a Christmas Movie Mixer hosted by MTN Nigeria. The event gathered actors, filmmakers, content creators, and others in the creative field to celebrate Nigerian cinema and the holiday season.
Idowu Adesokan, the General Manager of Consumer Segments at MTN Nigeria, spoke at the event. He said the partnership shows the company’s dedication to supporting the creative economy. He believes this can help create jobs, grow businesses, and share Nigerian stories with more people.
Adesokan mentioned that working with Omoni Oboli TV and MTN’s link with YouTube is part of their plan to give local talent more chances and connect people with Nigerian content.
He said, “At MTN, we recognize that connectivity goes beyond access to the internet. It is an enabler of creativity, innovation and economic opportunity. We believe Nigeria’s creative industry has enormous potential to entertain, create jobs, build businesses and take our stories to the world.”
Omoni Oboli highlighted that this partnership is special because it will make watching the films cheaper. Thanks to MTN’s YouTube data bundles, streaming these films will cost less.
“With MTN bundles, you can watch a whole film with just a few hundred naira. That makes me happy because I can tell my audience that we have a movie out, and they don’t have to break the bank to watch it,” she said.
Oboli explained that making films easier to access will also help filmmakers earn more and create jobs for actors and other professionals in the industry.
“The more people watch, the more money the creators make, and the more money the creators make, the more people we can empower. I can have more actors in my films. So, I’m also empowering other people,” she said.
Oboli described filmmaking as a business that supports many livelihoods. She noted that when a production succeeds, it benefits not just filmmakers but also actors and other workers whose income relies on the industry.
Berene Jankovich-Besan, a YouTube Consultant, also spoke. She emphasized how partnerships can help increase digital content use in Nigeria.
She pointed out that affordability and access to the right devices are key issues affecting digital growth. She believes that collaborations with telecom companies like MTN can help remove barriers to accessing online content.
