Germany's head coach Jürgen Klopp has said that Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz might not play on Sunday against Greece. Both players have muscle problems, according to a statement on the Germany Football Federation (DFB) website on Monday.
The two players had MRI scans after Germany's 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League. Klopp is hoping the injuries are not serious.
"It’s a muscular issue for both of them. They’ve both had MRIs. I hope it’s nothing too serious and the lads will be fit to play again fairly soon.
“They probably won’t be available for Sunday’s match,” Klopp said.
These injuries could make Klopp rethink his attacking lineup for the Greece game. Jonathan Burkardt and Nick Woltemade are among the players who might step in.
Klopp also acknowledged that his team needs to improve. They kicked off their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.
When asked if either player could still join the squad, Klopp said, "We’ll wait and see. But it’s clear we need to rethink things, we can, and should be, considering our options."
Musiala and Havertz were part of the team in the 1-1 draw with the Netherlands. This match was Klopp’s first as head coach of the national team.
Sky Sports News reported on Monday that Havertz is going back to Arsenal for treatment. He is believed to have a suspected muscle strain.
Havertz felt the problem after a challenge from Quinten Timber in the first half of Thursday’s match in Amsterdam and had to be replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib.
This season, he has started six of Arsenal’s eight games in all competitions, scoring three goals. Despite the injury not being serious, it adds to his recent troubles.
Last season, the 27-year-old managed only seven starts in the Premier League due to knee and muscle issues. He also missed the last three months of the 2024/25 season because of a hamstring injury.
