The Nasarawa State Police have started a special operation to remove bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminals hiding in forests across the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa, CP Shetima Mohammed, kicked off the operation on Wednesday in Lafia. He spoke to police operatives before they moved into Alagye Forest in the Doma Local Government Area.
Mohammed said this operation follows the order from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to improve security and bring lasting peace to the state.
He explained that tactical squads, anti-kidnapping units, and intelligence officers have been sent to key areas and forest paths.
The operation will continue until the end of December. Mohammed urged officers to act professionally and follow the rules closely.
To manage the operation better, CP Mohammed said the state has been divided into three zones.
“Sector A, which includes Lafia zone, is led by ACP Lamidu Alkali, the Squadron Commander of MOPOL 58, Lafia. Sector B, covering Akwanga zone, is under ACP Kadir Umar, the Squadron Commander of MOPOL 38, Akwanga. Sector C, which includes Keffi zone, is headed by ACP Olobekga Saligo, the Squadron Commander of MOPOL 69, Toto,” he stated.
He also shared that DCP Sanusi Jidda, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, will oversee activities in all three zones for the effective dismantling of criminal hideouts.
Mohammed called on locals to provide timely and reliable information about suspicious activities. He assured them that such information would be treated with the highest confidentiality.
He advised the public to obey the law and go about their daily activities, emphasizing the Command’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
