Nigeria A, our country's second team, won the first Nigeria Cricket Federation Quadrangular T20 tournament. They finished their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Ghana at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval on Sunday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Ghana batted first and got bowled out for 60 runs in 15.5 overs. Jayant Gautam was their top scorer with 21 runs off 24 balls.
Kareem Gafar was the star of Nigeria A's bowling. He took three wickets, while Sylvester Okpe got two. Ndubududem David, Mustapha Yusuf, and captain Taiwo Mohammed each took one wicket.
When it was Nigeria A's turn to bat, Bright Nyong led the chase with an unbeaten 38 runs off just 17 balls. His innings included four sixes and a four. Nigeria A reached 61 runs for 3 wickets in just eight overs to secure the win.
This victory marked a successful tournament for Nigeria A. They won five out of six matches, with their only loss coming against the senior national team, the Yellow Greens, on Friday. Earlier in the week, they had beaten the senior team by 19 runs on Tuesday.
Both Nigerian teams featured a mix of experienced players and new talents. Head coach and performance manager Stephen Mangongo used this tournament to evaluate the teams ahead of the T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier. This qualifier is set to take place in Abuja from October 18 to 25.
