Nigeria Customs Service Appoints Jaiyeola as Alternate Captain

The Nigeria Customs Service has named Abdulquadri Jaiyeola as the alternate captain of its men’s volleyball team. This is ahead of the second phase of the 2026 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League, according to PUNCH sports extra.

The announcement came in a statement signed by the Head of Sports, Samuel Onikeku, on Monday.

Onikeku explained that Jaiyeola's experience and leadership skills at both national and club levels earned him this role.

“Abdulquadri Jaiyeola has consistently shown great leadership at both the national and club levels.

“His experience and commitment make him a good fit for the team’s leadership as alternate captain,” Onikeku stated.

Jaiyeola recently led Nigeria’s senior men's volleyball team to qualify for the African Nations Championship qualifiers in Abidjan.

He plays as an outside hitter for Al-Wasl SC in Dubai. He gained recognition with Offa Volleyball Club before moving up to represent Nigeria at youth and U-21 levels.

He also has experience with the Customs team, having played in the 2021 African Men’s Club Championship in Tunisia.

Philip Akande remains the team captain, while Chris Udah keeps his role as first assistant captain. Princewill Okoi continues as second assistant captain.

Onikeku praised the players for their efforts in the first phase of the league. He encouraged them to maintain that performance as they approach the key stage of the competition.

“Our men’s team showed professionalism, discipline, and commitment throughout the first phase of the league,” he said.

“I urge the players to build on that performance and stay focused as we move into the final phase. We must keep working hard, working together, and being consistent to meet our goals.”
