Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have successfully fought off an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State. They killed more than 25 terrorists and seized weapons and ammunition during the confrontation.

The terrorists attacked the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four directions. But the soldiers fought back with better firepower, smart tactics, and good coordination on the ground.

Captain Mohammed Goni, who is the Acting Military Information Officer at the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, shared the news on the Nigerian Army's X account on Wednesday. He said the troops, with support from the Air Component, overpowered the attackers and made the remaining terrorists run away.

"Preliminary assessment indicates that over 25 terrorists were neutralised, with 14 bodies recovered so far," Goni stated in a Wednesday announcement.

After the fight, soldiers searched the area and found a stash of weapons and ammunition, including six AK-47 rifles. The military announced that they would continue operations to find more weapons and track the escaping terrorists to stop them from coming back together.

Sadly, some soldiers lost their lives in this battle. The Nigerian Army sent condolences to the families of these brave soldiers, praising their courage, sacrifice, and commitment.

The Army highlighted that successfully repelling this attack shows the readiness and strength of troops in the North-East Theatre. They also pointed out that the operation shows how effective air and ground teamwork is in disrupting terrorist plans and limiting their movements.

The Nigerian Army assured that they will keep putting pressure on terrorists and other criminals through active patrols, intelligence-led missions, and joined efforts with other security bodies. They aim to break down terrorist networks, protect communities, and ensure the safety of the nation.
