Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, a joint task force in the North-east, have stopped a terror attack and seized several weapons in the Buni Gari-Burtia area in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The spokesperson for the task force, Mohammed Goni, shared this in a statement on Monday. He said the troops were on routine patrol when they came across the “suspected Boko Haram terrorists.”

Mr Goni said the troops “responded decisively” and forced the terrorists to “withdraw from the area in disarray.”

A reinforcement force was sent in later, which helped the troops clear the ambush site and check the surrounding area.

“During the operation, troops discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging and hideout spots,” he said. “Items recovered include one motorcycle, bicycles, one magazine, ammunition, and rocket-propelled grenade bombs.”

Though there were no casualties among the military, Mr Goni mentioned that some operational vehicles were damaged during the encounter.

“Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission,” he said.

The military spokesperson assured that the task force troops are committed to stopping terrorists from acting freely, disrupting their activities, and protecting communities in the area.

“The general security situation in the area remains calm but unpredictable,” he said. He added that troops continue to keep up aggressive patrols and other coordinated security operations to protect lives and property.
