Troops from the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, have saved six people who were kidnapped in the Gbise community, located in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
Ahmad Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer for the JTF, shared this news in a statement on Saturday. He said the rescue happened on 25 September after troops got information about the victims' location.
According to Mr Zubairu, the troops were on patrol when they received reliable information about the six kidnapped individuals. They quickly moved in to bring them to safety.
The victims are Gabriel Enujuba, 50; Samson Magbo, 43; Alkasim Modu, 27; Manzo Bello, 27; Sani Abdullahi, 25, and Munza Yusuf, 25.
During initial questioning, five of the victims told the troops that they were taken from the Chenchengi-Takum Road. Mr Yusuf was kidnapped from his home in the Ahmadu General area of Takum Local Government Area in Taraba State.
The task force said its troops are stepping up intelligence-led operations to find and catch the kidnappers behind these attacks. They are also increasing patrols and gathering information from people in vulnerable communities and important routes in the region.
This recent rescue happens as kidnappings continue along the roads connecting Benue and nearby Taraba State.
