The Nigerian Army has announced that it has regained control of its official X account. This comes more than two months after the account was hacked.
The military stated that the account was successfully restored after addressing the "unauthorised access" that was reported on 29 August.
In a statement on Sunday, Colonel Appolonia Anele, acting spokesperson for the army, said they have fully restored administrative control of the account.
She mentioned that the account is now secured and will start providing regular updates on the army’s activities, operations, achievements, and developments.
"The successful recovery shows the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting its digital communication platforms, ensuring accurate information, and maintaining reliable channels for public engagement," Ms Anele said.
The army expressed gratitude to Nigerians, media organisations, and other groups for their patience and support while the account was down.
It also thanked those who helped keep access to credible information through its other official communication platforms.
The military asked the public to follow the restored account for timely and verified updates about its activities.
It restated its commitment to good communication, public engagement, and building trust between the military and the people of Nigeria.
The army did not provide details on how they restored the account or who was behind the hacking.
