Nigerian Athletes Miss Out on World Athletics Prize Money

Nigerian athlete Ezekiel Nathaniel, who holds the record in the 400m hurdles, and sprinter Udodi Onwuzurike did not win any medals or prize money at the first World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, on Sunday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Onwuzurike came in eighth place in the men’s 200m final, finishing with a time of 20.45 seconds. American Kenny Bednarek took first place with a time of 19.52 seconds, which is the fastest in the world this year.

Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo came in second with a time of 19.76 seconds, while American Courtney Lindsey finished third at 19.79 seconds.

Nathaniel also had a tough race, finishing sixth in the men’s 400m hurdles final with a time of 48.23 seconds.

Brazil’s Alison dos Santos won this event in 45.98 seconds. American Rai Benjamin followed in second place with a time of 46.40 seconds, while Norway’s Karsten Warholm secured third place at 46.78 seconds.

With these results, Tobi Amusan stood out as the only Nigerian athlete to finish on the podium in Budapest. Amusan earned $75,000 after taking second place in the women’s 100m hurdles final on Friday.
