Nigerian Golfers Shine at World Schools Games in Scotland

Five young Nigerian golfers represented the country for the first time at the World Schools Games Golf Championship. This event took place from September 14 to 16 in St Andrews, Scotland, where they competed against golfers from various countries.

Toluwalashe Balogun from Lagoon Schools, Lekki, stood out by taking second place in the Junior Girls category. Tiaraoluwa Ahmadu from St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, also performed well, finishing in the top five.

In the Junior Boys category, Mayomile Orungbeja from St. Gregory’s College made it into the top 10. Other members of the team included Fireyimi Aina from Lagos Preparatory School, Ikoyi, and Melvin Strasser from Meadow Hall School, Lekki.

Oluseyi Badmos, the Team Coordinator from 2AT Limited, shared that the championship is a great chance for young golfers to experience international competition. He said, “International exposure is an important part of developing young athletes. Opportunities such as this allow our children to compete, learn, build confidence and understand what it takes to perform at a higher level.”

Badmos added that the team's participation connects to the Let’s Play Golf in Schools initiative by 2AT Limited. This program aims to introduce golf to schoolchildren and create a path from casual play to serious training and competitions.

He also expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government, through the State Universal Basic Education Board. Their support has allowed 2AT Limited to bring golf to primary school students across the state.

Badmos emphasized that teamwork among the government, schools, parents, golf organizations, and other stakeholders is key. He believes this collaboration will help more talented young Nigerians move from grassroots golf to national and international levels.

2AT Limited congratulated all five golfers. They also thanked the parents, schools, coaches, and supporters for their commitment to junior golf in Lagos State and Nigeria.
