Nigerian winger Yira Sor joins Turkish club Amedspor

Winger Yira Sor has moved to newly promoted Turkish Super Lig team Amedspor from Belgian club Genk. He becomes the second Nigerian player to join the club this summer.

Amedspor announced Sor’s signing on Monday with an exciting video on their social media. The 26-year-old winger finally ends months of uncertainty about his future at Genk.

Sor was expected to leave the Belgian club after a tough time that was often interrupted by injuries. He joined Genk from Slavia Prague in January 2023 but struggled to find his place consistently during his three-and-a-half years in Belgium.

His transfer to Amedspor gives him a fresh start as the club prepares for its first season in the Turkish top flight. Sor made his Super Eagles debut in March and hopes that playing regularly in Turkey will help him regain his best form and secure his spot in the national team.

Sor teams up with Nigerian forward Orban

With Sor joining, Amedspor now has two Nigerian forwards in their squad as they get ready for their historic Super Lig campaign. He will team up with fellow Super Eagles player Gift Orban, who recently moved to Amedspor on a season-long loan from Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

Orban’s loan deal includes a condition for Amedspor to make the transfer permanent if certain terms are met. This move ends a period of uncertainty for Orban, who had lost his place at Hoffenheim after a loan spell at Italian club Hellas Verona.

Last season, Orban scored seven goals and assisted three times in 29 Serie A games for Verona, but his efforts could not save the team from relegation. Joining Amedspor offers him a new chance to bring his career back to life, while Sor aims to make a strong statement in Turkey after a tough time at Genk.
