Super Eagles winger Yira Sor has moved to newly promoted Turkish Super Lig team Amedspor from Belgian Pro League club Genk. He is the second Nigerian player to join Amedspor this summer.
Amedspor confirmed Sor’s signing on Monday with an exciting video on their social media pages. The 26-year-old winger ends months of uncertainty about his future at Genk.
Sor was expected to leave the Belgian club this summer after a tough time filled with injuries.
He joined Genk from Slavia Prague in January 2023. However, he struggled to find his rhythm during his three-and-a-half-year stay in Belgium. Injuries limited his chances to play regularly.
His move to Amedspor offers Sor a chance to start fresh as the newly promoted club prepares for its first season in the Turkish top division.
The winger made his Super Eagles debut in March. He hopes that playing regularly in Turkey will help him regain his best form and strengthen his place in the national team.
Sor teams up with Gift Orban
Sor’s arrival brings another Nigerian player to Amedspor. He will join fellow Super Eagles forward Gift Orban, who recently signed on a season-long loan from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
Orban’s loan includes a condition for Amedspor to make the transfer permanent if certain terms are met.
This move ended a period of uncertainty for Orban, who lost his place at Hoffenheim after a loan at Italian club Hellas Verona.
Orban scored seven goals and provided three assists in 29 Serie A games for Verona last season. Sadly, his efforts could not stop the club from getting relegated.
His move to Amedspor gives him a new chance to revive his career. Sor is also eager to impress in Turkey after his injury struggles at Genk.
Amedspor boosts squad with Nigerian talents
The addition of Sor and Orban gives Amedspor a strong Nigerian presence as they compete in the Super Lig for the first time.
Both players are expected to play key roles as Amedspor aims to establish itself among Turkey’s top teams after promotion.
Their signings also reflect the increasing trend of Nigerian players moving to Turkey this summer. Kelechi Iheanacho is among the latest to switch after joining Turkish second-tier club Bursaspor.
For Sor, the main goal now is to stay fit, rediscover his form, and seize this new opportunity with Amedspor as he looks to build on his Super Eagles debut.
