The Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria has named 44 coaches for different gymnastics areas. This is part of the preparations to qualify athletes for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
In a statement from the Technical Director, Rose Verisimo, Isaiah Erhunwunse is the new head coach for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics. He will have Bala Magaji Juwara and Anthony Duilemi as his assistants. Helen Albert will take charge of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics team, with Edem Umor Patric and Emmanuel Enejo helping her.
For Trampoline, DMT, and Tumbling, Dorcas Abel will coach the senior men, with Osamudiamwenam Amennaghawon assisting him. Osasu Obasohan will lead the senior women, supported by Godwin Bamidele and Awokunle Ojo.
In Aerobics Gymnastics, Edina Ahue has been appointed head coach for the senior team, with David West Tamunuosaki and Jennifer Eke as assistants. Michael Ocheke will manage the junior team, with Dimeji Aluko and Toyosi Glory Adeyemi helping him. Other appointments include positions in Parkour, Acrobatics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, and Gymnastics for All.
Prince Kelvin Erhunwunse, the President of the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria, said the coaches were chosen for their skills, commitment, and past performance.
“These appointments were made based on merit, dedication, and the track records of the individuals. We have absolute confidence that these coaches possess the requisite experience and passion to elevate Nigerian gymnastics to unprecedented heights,” he explained.
Erhunwunse also said the federation aims to develop top-level athletes who can win medals in Africa and worldwide. They also want to send a strong team to the 2028 Olympics.
“Preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics begins now, and we are putting the right technical crew in place to achieve this vision,” he stated.
He urged the new coaches to see their roles as a patriotic duty. He also emphasized the need for discipline, professionalism, and teamwork.
