Nigeria's daily production of crude oil and condensate rose by 2.34 percent to 1.72 million barrels in September. This was up from 1.68 million barrels the month before, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) on Tuesday.
The commission shared in a statement that Nigeria, the biggest oil producer in Africa, reached a peak production of 1.84 million barrels in September. This marks the fifth month in a row that the country has met its OPEC quota.
"Nigeria produced a daily average of 1,717,030 barrels of crude oil and condensate in September 2026. This is a 2.34 percent increase compared to the previous month," the statement said.
NUPRC indicated that the lowest daily production recorded in that time was 1.68 million barrels.
Nigeria aims to increase its output to 3 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2030. The upstream regulator expects at least 22 offshore projects to start production, which could attract about $50 billion in investment.
To draw new capital and revive idle oil fields, the government has launched several reforms. These include tax incentives, a drill-or-drop policy, and fiscal modernization, among others.
Without condensate, Nigeria's production in September averaged 1.53 million bpd. This is 102 percent of the 1.5 million bpd quota given to the country by OPEC.
NUPRC reported that Nigeria produced 1.53 million bpd in May, 1.55 million bpd in June, 1.51 million bpd in July, and 1.5 million bpd in August.
The commission said the production increase in September was due to stable operations at most producing sites. There were no major pipeline outages, which helped improve production uptime and the efficiency of crude oil evacuation.
"The sustained growth recorded in September shows the commitment of operators and industry stakeholders to improve operational efficiency, maintain asset integrity, and boost production reliability in Nigeria's upstream petroleum sector," the statement said.
Average daily crude oil and condensate production by terminal showed that Forcados Terminal had the highest output at 320,320 barrels per day. Bonny Terminal followed with 303,270 barrels per day, as reported.
