NIS and UNIBEN Team Up to Train Sports Managers

The National Institute for Sports and the University of Benin have teamed up to train sports managers in Nigeria.

They signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on developing professionals for managing sports in the country. This partnership includes National Diploma courses, certificate programs, and coaching programs.

A significant part of this agreement is the launch of a degree program in Sports Administration at UNIBEN. This program will give young Nigerians a chance to enter the sports industry through education.

During the announcement, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIBEN praised the Director-General of NIS, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, for the positive changes at the Institute.

“The transformation at the National Institute for Sports under the leadership of the Director-General is remarkable and commendable. It shows a clear commitment to repositioning the Institute and strengthening sports education and professional development,” he stated.

Shaibu highlighted the need for collaboration among institutions to support national development. He mentioned that the partnership with UNIBEN would help close gaps in sports management by providing professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge.

He also noted that this partnership fits with the vision for sustainable growth and nation-building under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Effective management is key to sports development, covering everything from local programs and finding talent to managing organizations, competitions, and athletes.

This collaboration aims to create a new generation of trained sports administrators. It will also open doors for research, professional training, and skills development.
