Governor Dauda Lawal has received praise from the Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA). They commend his administration for its commitment to changing the health sector and supporting medical workers.

Dr Muhammad Murtata Salahu, the State NMA Chairman, gave the praise at the 2026 Annual Physicians’ Week and Ordinary General Meeting of the association.

Dr Salahu said Governor Lawal has been working to improve the health sector in Zamfara state. This includes upgrading facilities, better healthcare services, and strengthening institutions.

He also expressed the NMA’s eagerness to work with Governor Lawal’s administration. They want to build a health system that is strong, accessible, fair, and responsive.

The Zamfara NMA Chairman said, "A stronger medical profession means a stronger healthcare system, and a stronger healthcare system means a healthier and more prosperous Zamfara."

"On behalf of all NMA members in Zamfara, I want to thank Governor Dauda Lawal for his visionary leadership, strong commitment to healthcare change, and ongoing support for medical professionals."

"We see and appreciate the current administration's determination to improve the healthcare sector. This includes facility upgrades, better healthcare services, and more focus on the welfare and training of healthcare workers."

"Governor Dauda Lawal’s focus on healthcare shows he understands that a healthy population is key for sustainable development, economic growth, and social stability."

"We also appreciate how his administration responds to the needs of medical professionals and tries to create a better environment for effective medical practice."

"These efforts are encouraging and are good steps to tackle the long-standing problems in our healthcare system."

"The state government's commitment to healthcare is commendable. We promise to keep supporting you professionally and work together to make the state’s healthcare vision a reality for the people of Zamfara."

"We also encourage the governor to keep up this good work. This includes investing more in healthcare facilities, improving staff welfare, hiring and keeping medical workers, and strengthening healthcare services across the state."

"I want to affirm the NMA’s readiness to work closely with the current administration. We want to build a health system that is strong, accessible, fair, and responsive," Dr Salahu said.

The theme for this year’s event was “Securing the Future of Medicine in Nigeria.” Activities during the physicians’ week included scientific talks, discussions on polio in Zamfara, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, and managing Diphtheria cases.

Dr Salahu mentioned that the speakers for the talks were chosen carefully to address key public health issues and to introduce the members to new developments in medical practice.

He thanked the WHO, UNICEF, and other partners, healthcare institutions, and stakeholders for their support. Their help has strengthened public health efforts in Zamfara.

Dr Salahu, who is also the Incident Manager at the Polio Emergency Operations Centre in Zamfara State, pointed out that Physicians’ Week is an important annual event. It celebrates the role of doctors in national development and reflects on the challenges they face.

“This year’s theme is timely, given the changing global health issues, rising disease rates, new technologies, and the need for accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services."

“As medical professionals, we know that securing the future of medicine needs more than just clinical skills,” he said.

He added that the healthcare system needs strong leadership, ongoing political commitment, smart investments, new technologies, and a motivated workforce to work effectively.
