The presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement, Esther Okereke, has said she will save Nigeria from insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and hopelessness if she wins the 2027 elections.
Okereke, one of the two women running for president in 2027, made this promise on Tuesday during the launch of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
She stated that this event was not just about creating a campaign team but starting a “rescue team” for Nigeria.
“Today, we are not just inaugurating a campaign council. Today, we are inaugurating the Rescue team of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“For too long, politics in Nigeria has been about sharing power. Our politics will be about sharing prosperity.
“For too long, campaigns have been about noise. Our campaign will be about structure, evidence, and peace,” she said.
Okereke pointed out that the NRM aims to tackle major issues facing the country, like insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and hopelessness.
“Why NRM? Why Now? Nigeria does not need another government. Nigeria needs rescue.
“Rescue from darkness. Rescue from hunger. Rescue from insecurity. Rescue from joblessness. Rescue from hopelessness,” Okereke stated.
She explained that the party's principles include legality, accountability, transparency, unity, peaceful participation, and the rule of law.
Okereke also mentioned that the campaign council is set up to work from the national level down to polling units, with 30 national directorates, six geopolitical zones, 36 states, and the Federal Capital Territory, local government areas, and wards.
She instructed the council members to follow a clear chain of command and warned against unauthorized statements and parallel commands.
Prince Chinedu Obi is the chair of the campaign council, with Okereke as co-chair. Dr Mustapha Umar Kumshe is the deputy chair, while Arc. Nasir Suleiman Muhammed is the co-deputy chair.
Hassan Aminu Ibrahim serves as secretary, Obidike Okolo, Esq., is the deputy secretary, Alhaji Sani Garba is the director-general, and Shedrach Oka is the deputy director-general.
The council also includes zonal and state chairmen and other officials and members chosen by the party.
Chinedu Obi, the National Chairman of the party, said the NRM was formed on the belief that Nigeria can work again with stronger institutions, accountability, and effective leadership.
He noted that Nigeria has great human and natural resources, agricultural potential, a young population, and chances for growth in industry, technology, and services. But it needs better institutions and leadership to turn these resources into real improvements in people's lives.
