The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Gombe State has arrested a 22-year-old man named Abdulrahman Ali. He is accused of vandalizing an armoured cable that supplies electricity to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited depot in Gombe.
The NSCDC also found 968.4 metres of aluminium power transmission cables that suspected vandals left behind in Lubo-Zambuk, located in the Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area.
Mohammed Usman, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, shared this information with reporters on Friday. He highlighted the command's recent successes in fighting vandalism and other crimes.
Usman explained that Ali, who lives in Tudun Wada, Pantami, Gombe, allegedly worked with another suspect who is still on the run. They are accused of vandalizing the armoured cable along Bauchi Road in Gombe on October 16, 2026.
According to him, the duo sold the vandalized cable for N100,000 and used the money for their personal needs.
“The suspect was arrested in Gombe while trying to escape from the state. This followed reliable information from the Department of Intelligence and Investigation,” he said.
In another operation, Usman mentioned that NSCDC Anti-Vandal Unit officers, along with the Lubo Community Security Committee, caught suspected vandals on the Lubo-Zambuk route on October 12.
He noted that the suspects ran away when they were caught, leaving behind 968.4 metres of vandalized aluminium power transmission cables.
“Efforts are ongoing to catch the suspects who fled,” Usman added.
