The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by President General Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and Secretary-General Ishaq Oloyede, has made changes to its National Executive Council (NEC).
This decision came after discussions at the Council’s General Assembly in Abuja on Thursday, 1st October, 2026, said Abbas Jimoh, the public affairs officer of the organization.
The General Assembly had many Muslim leaders present, including traditional leaders from the Islamic faith, Chief Imams from Central Mosques in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. They agreed to renew and expand the National Executive Council of the NSCIA with these appointments:
I. Deputy Secretary-General (National), Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji
II. Deputy Secretary-General (International), Prof. Salisu Shehu
III. Deputy Secretary-General (Corporate), Mr Abeny Mohammed (SAN)
IV. Deputy Secretary-General (Administration), Dr Bala Muhammad
V. Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu
VI. Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO), Hajia Sekinat Lawal
VII. Development Officer, Dr Mairo Mandara
VIII. Deputy Development Officer (Technical), Arc Abdullahi Musa PenAbdul
IX. Family Affairs Officer, Prof. Fatimah Abdulkarim
The NSCIA is the top Islamic authority in Nigeria. It was set up in 1973 to help, protect, and promote the interests of Islam and Muslims across the country. It also works for the unity of Nigerian Muslims as the official body recognized by both the Federal and State Governments, managing Islamic affairs in Nigeria.
The NSCIA's main office is located at the Abuja National Mosque Office Complex in the Central Business District, Abuja, Nigeria. The Council aims to support and advance the interests of Islam and Muslims throughout the country.
