NUC gives nod to 30 new courses at Jigawa federal university

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the Federal University Dutse (FUD) to set up a Faculty of Law and start full-time academic activities for 30 new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was communicated in a letter dated 11 September, signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei. The letter was addressed to the vice-chancellor of the university, Ahmad Gumel.

This approval is a big step for FUD, adding new subjects in artificial intelligence, allied health sciences, legal studies, modern education, and advanced postgraduate research.

The vice-chancellor called this approval a major achievement for his administration’s goal to diversify and modernise the university’s academic offerings. Mr Gumel said the new courses aim to meet the changing needs of today’s world, especially in high-demand areas like technology, public health, legal training, and science education.

“This academic expansion provides our students with skills that match current industry trends and social issues,” Mr Gumel said. “We want to make sure that FUD graduates are competitive, ready for the job market, and able to create positive change in society.”

With the NUC's approval, admissions for these new programmes are set to start as part of the 2026/2027 university admissions cycle.
