The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has said that the 2026 Licensing Round will kick off in the third quarter of 2026. Gbenga Komolafe, the Commission's Chief Executive, shared this information during a recent press conference.
Komolafe said the licensing round is part of the government's plan to bring in investments into the oil and gas sector. He noted that this is very important for the country's economic growth. He stressed that the NUPRC is dedicated to a clear and smooth licensing process.
The Chief Executive also pointed out that the upcoming licensing round will cover both shallow and deep-water blocks. This will create chances for local and international investors. He encouraged interested companies to get their bids ready based on the guidelines that will be provided before the licensing round.
In addition, Komolafe assured everyone involved that the NUPRC is working hard to solve issues in the sector. These issues include regulatory challenges and the need for better infrastructure. He expressed hope that the 2026 Licensing Round would greatly help in reviving Nigeria's oil and gas industry.
