The Ogun State Police have arrested 11 people and recovered 25 ATM cards, three guns, and two suspected stolen vehicles in an 11-day operation across the state.
The police found the ATM cards with a 45-year-old man named Ameachine Anthony. He was arrested in Igbesa for allegedly committing N2.5 million fraud.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, shared this news in a statement on Sunday. He said the arrests happened between September 16 and 26, 2026.
Babaseyi explained that the operation involved police from different divisions and the Special Weapons and Tactics unit.
The investigation into Anthony's activities showed a scheme where utility bills and new SIM cards were used to open bank accounts. The police claimed that the ATM cards were then used for fraudulent activities.
They also recovered several mobile phones from Anthony. He and the items were taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
In another action, SWAT Base 7 in Abule-Iroko arrested three suspects after stopping an unregistered tricycle and a TVS motorcycle around Dalemo, Ota, on September 21.
The suspects are Olamide Ayandele, 30; Tope Samuel, 40; and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30. The police connected them to vehicle theft in the Ijoko area.
On September 22, SWAT operatives arrested a suspected cult member named Peter Olanrewaju, 34, after receiving a tip about a cult meeting. Babaseyi said investigations led to another suspect, Adebayo Sodiq, 36, being arrested too. They recovered one pump-action rifle and two locally made guns.
The police are still looking into how the guns were obtained and who else might be involved.
Detectives from the Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle in Mokoloki Village on September 17. This followed a complaint made the day before.
They arrested two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, regarding the theft, while another suspect, Saheed, is still on the run.
In the Olorunda area, police arrested two more suspects, Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, after they were caught with stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle on September 19.
The police seized bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box, and a circuit breaker box. Another suspect, identified as Tosin, managed to escape.
The command also recovered a Safira vehicle believed to be stolen and arrested Olatunji Olalekan in connection with it. This vehicle was recovered by detectives from the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office after thorough investigation and intelligence work.
Meanwhile, officers from the Sagamu Area Command and nearby divisions seized eight vehicles during a “No Parking” enforcement operation at the Sagamu Interchange Bridge on September 26.
The police said these vehicles were taken for blocking the highway. They added that this operation aimed to improve traffic flow and safety for drivers.
The affected vehicles will face legal action on September 28.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their alertness and professionalism. He also thanked the public for their cooperation.
Ojajuni urged residents to stay alert and share any useful information with the police. He assured that the command is committed to proactive policing in Ogun State.
