The first group of 345 pilgrims from Ogun State returned home safely after completing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia. They performed their spiritual duties in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The group included 151 men and 194 women. They arrived at the Gateway International Airport, Ilisan-Iperu Remo, on a Flynas A330 aircraft at 8:41 pm on Thursday.

This arrival is an important event for the airport. It marked the first direct international flight from Saudi Arabia after this year's Hajj pilgrimage was completed.

Top government officials welcomed the pilgrims. The Ogun State Government was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Head of Service, Mr Olarenwaju Iskeel Saka.

During a reception for the returning pilgrims at the airport, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Mr Talabi, called the successful Hajj operations a great achievement for the state.

"I feel very happy and elated because many people thought this day would not be possible, but we thank God Almighty for making it a reality.

"The departure was very smooth, the return has been smooth, and the handling of passengers has gone very well," he said.

Governor Abiodun praised the pilgrims for their good behavior while in the Holy Land. He said they represented Ogun State well.

He promised that the state government would keep supporting pilgrims and improve Hajj operations in the future.

The governor encouraged the pilgrims to carry on the spiritual lessons learned during their pilgrimage. He urged them to show more humility, obey the law, and act well in their daily lives.

"I want to charge them to let people see the signs of a transformed person in them, greater humility, obedience to the law, goodness, and conduct that reflect the experience of someone who has just returned from the Holy Land," he stated.

Sheikh Iskeel Lawal Sugar, the Consultant to the Governor on Islamic Affairs and leader of the first group of pilgrims, spoke to journalists after their arrival. He thanked Governor Abiodun for caring about the pilgrims' welfare.

"I want to appreciate our Governor for his efforts in Hajj affairs. He was constantly calling to check on us in Mecca. He is a good leader," he said.

Two returning pilgrims, Ayomide Adetunji and Mrs Tawa Balogun, expressed their gratitude to God for their successful pilgrimage and safe return.

They also thanked Governor Abiodun for providing good welfare and support services during their stay in Saudi Arabia. They described the pilgrimage as a memorable and rewarding experience.

The pilgrims were happy to arrive directly at Gateway International Airport, calling the experience convenient and historic. They praised the state government for making their journey easy.
