Ogunsakin Kicks Off US Open Junior Journey Against World No. 16

Nigeria’s young tennis star Oluwaseun Ogunsakin is set to make his debut in the US Open Junior Championships main draw on Sunday. He will go up against Kuan-Shou Chen from Chinese Taipei.

The match is set for 4 p.m. Nigerian time. Ogunsakin is aiming for his first victory in a Grand Slam junior main draw.

The player from Aurum Tennis Academy earned his spot in the 64-player main draw after a strong qualifying run in New York. He beat Canada’s Felix Roussel, the top seed, with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the second qualifying round.

Earlier, Ogunsakin had also defeated Poland’s Tymon Litwic with a score of 6-3, 6-0 in his first qualifying match.

Now, he faces a tougher challenge against Chen, who is ranked world No. 16 among juniors and is the No. 15 seed in the tournament.

This match is a chance for Ogunsakin to measure his skills against one of the best players on the junior circuit.

His entry into the US Open main draw is another milestone in his quick rise as a tennis player.

Ogunsakin is playing in his third Grand Slam junior tournament in a row. He started his Grand Slam journey at the Roland Garros Junior Championships before playing at Wimbledon Juniors.

At Wimbledon this year, he made it to the boys’ singles main draw and reached the semi-finals in the doubles event.

Now, his performance in New York ensures that he will again compete in the singles main draw of a Grand Slam. This gives him a chance to continue improving.

Ogunsakin needs to stay calm and focused against Chen, who is one of the seeded players in the tournament.
