Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has come out in support of Victor Osimhen’s possible move to Paris Saint-Germain. He believes the Nigerian striker would do well at the French club and help them maintain their strong presence in European football, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Osimhen has become one of the most wanted strikers in Europe this summer after an impressive season with Galatasaray. He scored 22 goals and provided six assists in all competitions, helping the Turkish team win the Super Lig.

In two seasons at Rams Park, he has netted 59 goals and assisted 16 times in 74 matches. PSG, who recently won two UEFA Champions League titles in a row, are interested in the 27-year-old as they look for a natural striker. Okpara, a former PSG player, thinks this move is good for both sides.

“It will make them stronger. For him, going to PSG, he knows he has played in the French league and knows how everything goes,” Okpara told Footy Africa.

“It is a wonderful team for him, and it is a team that wants to win everything. It is a winning team.” Okpara also highlighted Osimhen’s past in France, where he scored 18 goals and made five assists in one season with Lille. He believes this proves Osimhen can fit in and shine in Paris.

“I know next year they will be planning to win the Champions League again. So I think, why not? PSG might be in that shoe too. So for him, going to PSG, it will be a very good thing for Osimhen and for Nigeria as a whole,” the 53-year-old said.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid has also shown interest in signing Osimhen. According to Fichajes, the Spanish club has already started talks about a possible move, and the Nigerian is reportedly open to playing in La Liga.

Atletico's interest comes amid uncertainty surrounding Julian Alvarez, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal. Barcelona had earlier shown interest in the Argentine but backed off because of his €100m price tag.

Galatasaray wants at least €100m for Osimhen, and Atletico seems ready to pay that amount if Alvarez leaves. A move to Madrid would also see Osimhen reunite with Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman, who joined Atletico in January.

However, sources close to Osimhen say he will only leave Galatasaray if the club decides to sell him. He has recently played down rumors of leaving. Other clubs like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United are also interested in him.

If PSG wins the race for Osimhen, he could be leading the team in the UEFA Super Cup final against Aston Villa on August 12.
