Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is looking forward to playing in Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon next week. This comes after he hurt his groin during Friday’s 3-2 win over Istanbul Başakşehir, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Osimhen left the game in the 33rd minute due to the injury. He has tried to ease worries about his fitness and aims to be back on the field against the Portuguese team if the club’s medical and coaching staff say he is fit to play.
“I have nothing, I didn’t want to risk myself. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the field,” Osimhen said.
Earlier in the match, Osimhen scored a great goal, hitting the ball into the top corner after a setup from Lucas Torreira. Unfortunately, he had to leave the game, and Barış Alper Yılmaz took his spot.
Galatasaray later confirmed that strain and pain were found in Osimhen’s right adductor muscle. They also said treatment had started for him.
The Turkish champions announced that advanced tests, including an MRI scan, were being done on Osimhen and teammate Mario Lemina. The results of these medical checks were expected by Sunday.
This news raised fears about whether Osimhen would be available for Galatasaray’s Champions League match. Still, his positive remarks have given fans hope that he might recover in time for the Sporting Lisbon game.
If Osimhen can play, it would be a big boost for Galatasaray. The team needs their star forward to get back quickly and avoid a long break from football.
Osimhen’s condition will also be watched by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. Nigeria has upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
