Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will not play for Nigeria in November. This comes after Galatasaray announced he will have surgery on a left knee injury, Saturday PUNCH reports.
On Friday, the Turkish champions said Osimhen sprained his left knee during a Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart. He will have the surgery on Saturday. The 27-year-old will miss Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
This is a big blow for the Super Eagles, who kick off their November matches against Tanzania on Friday, November 13.
This injury is not the first time Osimhen has faced fitness issues during this qualifying campaign. He was also injured earlier when the team beat Madagascar 2-1 and lost 3-0 to Guinea-Bissau in a surprising result.
Osimhen’s absence comes after Nigeria also lost winger Samuel Chukwueze for these same matches. AC Milan announced on Wednesday that Chukwueze had successful surgery in London to fix a ruptured tendon in his left hip.
