A resident of Osogbo, Taofeeq Mustapha, was shot by gunmen who were in a minibus. This happened around the Oluode Aranyin area of Osogbo, Osun State, on Saturday.
Mustapha, in a video shared with our reporter, said he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He claims he was targeted by the attackers because he wore a fez cap in the APC campaign colors. The cap also had the inscription “AMBO,” which is the acronym for Bola Oyebamiji, the party’s governorship candidate.
In the video, Mustapha, who had open wounds on his legs, spoke in Yoruba. He said, “They observed I had on my head a cap with AMBO inscription. They came in Sinna Bus and had on their head fez cap with Accord inscription.
“They shot at me repeatedly. I escaped death narrowly. It was AMBO cap that I had on that made me their target. They have been after my life since. Nigerians must help me.”
When we reached out, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed they were aware of the shooting.
“Probe has commenced into the incident. The victim was offered treatment but his family members insisted on taking him away for treatment.
“We have launched investigation into the incident,” Ojelabi said.
