With the qualifying rounds of the 47th Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis Championship finished at the Package B courts of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the focus now shifts to the main matches starting today.

The draws released by the organisers show that players from national rankings, successful qualifiers, and wildcard entrants will compete in the men’s Round of 64 and women’s Round of 32.

In the men’s singles, Abua Cannice is the top seed. Adeleye Daniel is second, followed by Michael Emmanuel in third place. Danjuma Lucky is fourth, Mohammed Musa is fifth, and Sani Inabo Yahaya is sixth.

Thomas Otu, the 14th seed and known as “Star Boy,” reached the quarter-finals last year. He has promised to do better this year by aiming for the semi-finals.

Cannice, the top seed, is also feeling confident. He believes the form that took him to the top of the rankings will help him win his first CBN Senior Tennis Championship title.

In the women’s singles, fourth seed Mary Udofia says she has worked on her past mistakes and is ready to fight for the title.

Toluwaloshe Agubiade, who played singles and doubles at the ITF Junior Tournament in Abuja earlier this year, is also confident about going far in the championship.

Today’s matches will see Cannice play against qualifier Ureyang. Timbra Godsgift will take on Kpum Later in another men’s singles match.

In the women’s category, top seed Kadilat Mohammed is set to face Timipre Maxwell. Second seed Bright Emmanuel Essien will go against Puriniman Bajo.
