Finalists Confirmed for CBN Senior Tennis Championship

The grand finale of the 47th Central Bank of Nigeria Open Senior Tennis Championship is almost here. The finalists for the men’s and women’s singles events are set. They will compete at the Tennis Courts of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Defending champion and third seed Michael Emmanuel is back in the final for the second year in a row. He will take on Nigeria’s current number one and tournament top seed, Abua Canice, in the men’s singles final. In the women’s singles, fifth seed Bassey Etoro will challenge sixth seed Ogunjobi Success for the title.

Etoro made it to the final after a tough match against Emmanuel-Essien Bright. She won that match 6-0, 1-6, 6-4. Success also had a close match, beating top seed Mohammed Khadijat 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to secure her spot in the final.

In the men’s singles semi-finals, Canice, who is looking for his first CBN Senior Tennis title, defeated eighth seed Yusuf Abubakar in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-4.

Emmanuel had to fight hard to win his semi-final match. After losing the first set, he came back to beat Jimoh Joseph 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. This win sets up his match against Canice.

The tournament is also still active in the wheelchair singles category as it heads toward its conclusion.
