Former Ajax and Borussia Dortmund coach Peter Bosz has praised Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare after his great start at Ajax, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Arokodare joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer. He has an option for Ajax to buy him permanently after not getting enough playtime in his first season in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old had previously shone in Belgium with Genk, finishing as the league’s top scorer in the 2024/25 season before moving to Wolves. Since returning to the Netherlands, he has quickly found his scoring touch again.
Arokodare has netted six goals in nine matches for Ajax in all competitions this season. This includes three goals in the Eredivisie and two assists.
Bosz, who knows the Eredivisie well, now manages Ajax’s rival team, PSV Eindhoven. He has taken notice of Arokodare’s performances. Speaking to De Telegraaf, Bosz discussed Ajax’s recruitment of experienced players during the summer window and noted the improvements in the team.
“Ajax have strengthened enormously. They have opted for experience. A number of those players are doing very well,” Bosz said.
He then pointed out Arokodare as a unique addition to the Dutch league, praising the physical attributes he brings to Ajax’s attack.
“They have brought in a big striker, something we don’t really know in the Netherlands,” the 62-year-old said.
“That is a quality injection for Ajax.”
Standing at 1.97 meters, Arokodare gives Ajax a new attacking option, especially with his height and strength. He is able to help the team when they choose a more direct style of play.
More importantly, he has quickly turned those skills into goals. The Nigerian scored his first Eredivisie goal against Telstar on August 30, then netted against PSV and scored again against Excelsior in September.
His goals in European matches have brought his total to six in nine games, showing how fast he has adapted to the new environment.
Arokodare’s comeback is impressive, especially after a tough debut season in England. He mostly came off the bench during Wolves’ relegation fight but still managed to score six goals in league and cup matches.
His loan to Ajax has given him a bigger role, and his strong start has raised hopes that Ajax might want to sign him permanently.
This resurgence is also good news for Nigeria, as Arokodare gives Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle another attacking option alongside star striker Victor Osimhen.
With his mix of height, speed, strength, and goalscoring skills, Arokodare is becoming a new kind of threat for the national team.
While Bosz's remarks were about Ajax's player recruitment, they show why Arokodare's rise could be valuable for both Ajax and the Super Eagles.
