Pirlo Speaks on Russian Brand Deal Amid Coaching Rumors

Former Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo has finally spoken about the backlash from his deal with a Russian brand. This comes as talks continue about him possibly becoming the head coach of the Italy national team.

Fabrizio Romano reported on X on Monday that Pirlo chose not to comment earlier out of respect for the Italian Football Federation and the ongoing situation.

"I chose to remain silent in recent days out of respect for the Italian Football Federation and everyone involved," Pirlo said.

He also made it clear that in his playing and coaching career, he has always followed the laws of the countries he worked in and the agreements he signed.

"Throughout my career, both as a player and as a coach, I have always worked in full compliance with the laws of the countries in which I have been employed and with the contracts I have signed," he explained.

Pirlo addressed the deal that has caused the controversy. He said the agreement was made during his time coaching in the United Arab Emirates and is strictly commercial and sporting.

He rejected the idea that this partnership reflected his political beliefs.

"To attribute a political meaning to this agreement is to attribute opinions to me that I have never expressed and that do not belong to me," Pirlo stated.

Pirlo took a moment to thank Paolo Maldini and Leonardo for their trust and respect over the years.

"I thank Paolo Maldini and Leonardo for the trust and respect they have always shown me, as well as for their professionalism and dedication to Italian football," he said.

In his closing remarks, the 2006 FIFA World Cup winner expressed disappointment that what he sees as a purely sports and business issue has turned into public drama.

"I regret that a matter which is purely sporting and commercial has become the subject of public controversy. My love for Italy is part of my history and my identity, and it does not depend on whether I hold the position of national team head coach," Pirlo concluded.
