The Bauchi State Police have arrested a 22-year-old drug dealer named Samuel Ogochukwu. He is accused of using a 14-year-old boy to deliver drugs to a customer.
The police said they caught the boy, Samuel Kosi, during a routine patrol on Monday. Officers from the Violent Crimes Response Unit stopped him around 11am while he was allegedly on his way to deliver a small amount of a whitish substance believed to be methamphetamine, also known as Ice.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the boy admitted that Ogochukwu sent him to make the delivery. After this confession, police found Ogochukwu at his location and arrested him.
When police searched Ogochukwu’s shop and home, they found 3.5 grammes of suspected methamphetamine, 17 sachets of 100mg tramadol capsules, five sachets of 300mg pregabalin capsules, and seven sachets of diazepam. They also recovered 12 Exol tablets, two wraps of a substance called "Yellow Boys," and one sachet of "Shine Shine Leather."
The police revealed that Ogochukwu said he received his drugs through waybills from Onitsha, Anambra State. The statement mentioned that the teenager would be treated according to juvenile best practices and would go back to his family after counseling. Meanwhile, Ogochukwu will face charges in court after the investigation ends.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised the VCRU for their hard work and effectiveness. He pointed out that this arrest is the fourth major drug bust the unit has made in just 10 days.
He assured the public that the command will continue its fight against drug trafficking and other crimes in the state.
