The Oyo State Police Command announced on Saturday that they arrested five suspected armed robbers. They also recovered firearms, ammunition, and charms at Gbeku Area, Olodo, in Egbeda Local Government Area.
The suspects are all men. Their names are Ahmed Nafiu, who is 43 years old; Olukunmi Olaniyi, 36; Femi Odeyinde, 53; Jelili Akinade, 50; and Muhideen Adio, 27.
The police found one pump-action gun, one single-barrel cut-to-size gun, eight live cartridges, a native bullet-proof vest, two bottles of charm syrup, assorted charms, and other items during the operation.
This information came from a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said intelligence reports showed that the suspects were planning another robbery in the area from their hideout.
In another statement, the PPRO explained how police acted on credible intelligence. They raided the home of Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, known as “Surii Ilupeju,” at Gbeku Area, Olodo, on Friday, June 12, 2026.
A thorough search during the operation led to the arrests and recovery of the weapons. The statement highlighted the police's ongoing effort to fight crime in the state.
“The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
“On June 12, 2026, at about 1:00 AM, operatives of the Command, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the residence of Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, also known as ‘Surii Ilupeju,’ located at Gbeku Area, Olodo, Ibadan.
“During the operation, five suspected members of a criminal group were arrested. The suspects are: Ahmed Nafiu, male, 43 years; Olukunmi Olaniyi, male, 36 years; Femi Odeyinde, male, 53 years; Jelili Akinade, male, 50 years; and Muhideen Adio, male, 27 years.
“A thorough search during the operation found the following items: one pump-action gun; one single-barrel cut-to-size gun; eight live cartridges; one native bullet-proof vest; two bottles of suspected charm syrup; assorted charms and other incriminating items.
“The suspects are now in police custody while investigations continue. The police want to find out their full involvement in crime and catch other members of their group who are still free,” the statement explained.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, promised that the command would keep fighting armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the state.
He assured residents that intelligence-led operations and targeted raids of criminal hideouts would go on until all criminals are caught. Abimbola also asked residents to keep giving the police timely and reliable information, promising that all information would be kept confidential.
