The Bauchi State Police has arrested a 60-year-old man named Abdullahi Abubakar. He is accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old boy, Usman Dauda, in Zigau Village, Shira Local Government Area of the state.
The police said they rescued the boy unharmed during their operation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, shared this news in a statement on Tuesday.
Habib explained that on September 28, 2026, at about 10pm, the Yana Divisional Police Headquarters got a distress call from the boy’s father, who is 50 years old. He reported that his son had been taken from Misau town to Bangala Village by Abubakar.
According to Habib, the suspect planned to take the teenager to Kano, but the reasons are still unclear.
He said, "After we received the report, detectives quickly went to the scene, rescued the victim unharmed, and arrested the suspect."
The police then took the victim to General Hospital Yana for medical checks.
The PPRO mentioned that early investigations showed the suspect admitted to keeping the boy in his room for a day without proper food.
