The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has told all 17 Divisional Police Officers in the Metro Area Command to stop robbery and other crimes in the city center in two weeks.

Sanusi gave this order on Friday during a meeting with the DPOs. The meeting aimed to look at the current security situation and improve strategies in the command.

A statement from the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the meeting focused on new security threats and problems within the Metro Area Command.

The statement noted that the commissioner was worried about the rising cases of traffic robbery, car theft at gunpoint, “one-chance” robberies, careless driving, damage to public and private property, illegal parking on roads, traffic jams, and the actions of commercial motorcyclists on major roads.

“He therefore ordered the DPOs to end these crimes within two weeks or face the consequences,” the statement mentioned.

Sanusi also told all DPOs and the Area Commander Metro to focus on security operations in the city center. He added that he would personally handle security issues in the suburbs.

The commissioner warned against carelessness, instructing the Area Commander to ensure that all operational orders are followed closely.

“The CP stressed that he will not condone negligence, directing the Area Commander Metro, who is the supervising officer, to provide effective leadership and ensure strict compliance with the directives,” the statement continued.

The command encouraged residents to keep supporting police efforts by sharing timely and reliable information with the nearest police division or through its emergency numbers.

PUNCH Online reports that this directive comes as the FCT Police step up their fight against crime in the capital, especially robbery and kidnapping.

A rescue operation in the Byazhin area on June 9 freed five kidnapped victims while two suspects were killed.

This operation was followed by raids that took down criminal hideouts along the Abuja, Niger, Kaduna border, leading to arrests and the destruction of criminal camps.
