Police find bandits' hideout, recover guns and bullets

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has found two FN FAL rifles and live ammunition during a raid on a suspected bandits' hideout in Dajin Madam Forest. This forest is located between Plateau and Bauchi states.

PUNCH Metro got information from a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh. She said the operation came after further investigation into the arrest of four suspects. These suspects are allegedly involved in supplying arms, ammunition, and illegal substances to bandits.

Adeh explained that operatives from the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out the operation on August 2. This was after they received reliable intelligence from one of the arrested suspects, Musbahu Ishaq.

The information led the operatives to the forest. There, the criminal group was said to have one of its hideouts. “Further investigation showed that Musbahu Ishaq got arms and ammunition from one Rabiu Hassan. He then supplied them to one Baba Alhaji Sanusi, a suspected bandit kingpin who is currently on the run and believed to be hiding in a forest in Katsina State,” the statement read.

Adeh said that searching the hideout resulted in recovering the two rifles and live ammunition. The ammunition was allegedly hidden in the forest. She mentioned that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the group, find more weapons tied to them, and take the suspects to court.

The Commissioner of Police for FCT Command, Ahmed Sanusi, reacted to the operation. He said the command will keep doing intelligence-led operations until they catch all members of the group. “The command is committed to intelligence-led policing, and ongoing operations will continue until all members of the syndicate are caught and brought to justice,” the statement added.

The police also called on residents to share timely and credible information with the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
