The Anambra State Police have arrested a 32-year-old man, Ifeanyi Obi, suspected of stealing mobile phones. He is linked to several thefts at hotels in Awka, Isuaniocha, and Mgbakwu.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, said officers from the Amanuke Police Division caught him early on Sunday. This arrest followed investigations into reports of phone thefts and a review of CCTV footage that reportedly tied him to the crimes.
Ikenga mentioned that during questioning, Ifeanyi confessed to stealing five Android phones from hotels in those areas.
The statement from the police noted, "The suspect was arrested in the early hours of October 25, 2026 by operatives attached to the Amanuke Police Division, following investigations into reported cases of mobile phone theft and the review of video surveillance footage allegedly linking him to the incidents."
It continued, "During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to stealing five Android phones from hotels in the affected communities."
The police are now looking to recover the stolen phones and find out more about the thefts. They want to identify anyone else who might be involved.
Nnanna Ama, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, has promised to protect lives and property in the state. He advised hotel owners, business operators, and the public to improve their security and stay alert.
"The Command assures the public that investigations will be pursued diligently and that further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses," he added.
