The Police in Adamawa State have arrested a gang of 57 people causing trouble in Yola, the state capital, and surrounding areas.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police spokesman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to clean up the state from criminals.

"As part of our efforts to remove criminal elements and improve public safety, we carried out a coordinated operation in identified criminal hideouts and trouble spots in Jimeta and Yola," he said.

The statement noted that the operation was led by Divisional Police Officers under the watch of their Area Commanders. It "yielded positive results with the arrest of fifty-seven (57) suspects for offences related to Shilla activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons, and involvement with banned substances."

The Adamawa State Police Command, under CP Kabir Hassan, continues its strong fight against Shilla gangs, drug abuse, public nuisance, and other criminal acts across the state.

During the operation, police recovered various weapons and suspected banned substances from the arrested individuals. The items have been recorded and will be used as evidence in court during the trials.

The statement also mentioned that the suspects have been taken to court according to the law. It added that profiling and more investigations are ongoing to find out the extent of their involvement in other criminal activities.

The CP praised the professionalism and dedication of the officers who took part in the operation. He assured residents that the police are determined to break down criminal gangs and bring lasting peace to the state.

The command also called on the public to stay alert and keep supporting the police with useful and timely information to help in preventing and detecting crimes.
