Police nab Indian and two others in Oyo over truck driver attack

The Oyo State Police have arrested an Indian man and two security personnel over the attack on two truck drivers. This happened at Karma Agric Feeds and Foods Limited along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan.

The police made the arrests after a video of the assault went viral, catching the force's attention on Tuesday.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, instructed detectives to find and arrest those involved in the incident.

The suspects are Olowu Oluwadamilare and Sodeke Olamide, both security operatives at the company, and Harjit Singh, a 46-year-old Indian linked to the firm.

The statement said, "Initial findings show that the fight started from a disagreement about where a truck should park after delivering goods on Saturday."

Akinpelu Sarafa, the truck owner, aged 47, said the driver refused to park in the assigned spot because he was worried it could damage the truck's tyres. But he was forced to park there, and then one of the tyres blew out.

The dispute grew when the driver asked for a new tyre, but the company refused. The driver then allegedly blocked the company’s entrance with his truck, leading to a physical fight between the drivers, security operatives, and the Indian man.

The police identified the victims as Ridwan Olajide, 34, and Taiwo Yinusa, 37. Both were taken to a hospital in the Academy area of Ibadan for treatment.

The police officer in charge of the investigation visited the hospital to get statements from the victims as part of the inquiry into the incident.

The case has been moved to the Special Enquiry Bureau in Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation and necessary action.

The police are still looking into the matter to clarify the roles of everyone involved and figure out who is responsible.

The command assured the public that the law would apply fairly to everyone, urging people to stay calm while the investigations continue.
