Police nab suspected kidnapper and find drone in Kano

The Kano State Police have arrested a 35-year-old man, suspected of kidnapping and cattle rustling. They also found a cine-camera drone during operations along the Kano-Kaduna and Kano-Katsina borders.

The suspect, Habibu Bello from Kunkumi Town, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested on September 14. This followed reliable information received by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command’s spokesman, shared this in a statement on Monday. He said Bello was arrested around 4:48 pm during a focused operation. Police suspect he belongs to a group involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and cattle rustling in Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.

"The investigation after his arrest led to another suspect being caught, identified as Mudam from Kwanar Dangora," the statement mentioned.

Bello admitted to being involved in several kidnappings. This includes the case of Hajiya Binta from Kwanar Dangora, for which a ransom of N20 million was reportedly paid.

"He also took part in the kidnapping of a family in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, as well as cattle rustling activities across Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states," the statement added.

The police said investigations are ongoing. They are working hard to catch other members of the group and recover their weapons.

In another matter, police found a cine-camera drone marked GT 50 in Hawan Tarau Village, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

They recovered the drone on September 17 around 2 pm during operations after spotting it on the ground.

The police stated, "We are intensifying efforts to trace the source and owner of the drone."

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the officers for their bravery. He assured the public that they will keep up clearance operations alongside neighboring commands.

"The Command will continue the aggressive clearance operations with neighboring Commands to ensure criminals have no safe place," he said.

Bakori also urged residents to help the police by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or using the command’s emergency numbers.
