PHOTOS: Police raid crime areas in FCT, arrest 300 suspects

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested about 300 people. This happened during a raid on known crime spots, shanties, and unfinished buildings across the FCT.

The police said this raid is part of their efforts to stop crime, disrupt criminal activities, and improve safety for residents.

The operation took place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The police shared this information in a statement from their headquarters in Abuja. The Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, also tweeted about it on Sunday.

Adeh mentioned that the suspects are now undergoing thorough screening and profiling. She added that those found guilty will face charges in court. Those with no case to answer will be set free.

"The operation, carried out across various locations, led to the raid of several identified criminal hideouts, with about 300 people taken into custody for screening. Items recovered during the operation include knives, a toy gun, cannabis, and other illegal drugs," the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, emphasized the command’s goal to keep doing "intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations across the Territory, especially at places known as potential hideouts for criminals."

He urged the youths and residents in the FCT to stop using drugs. He also advised those already struggling with addiction to seek proper counseling and rehabilitation support.

Sanusi said, "The CP further cautions youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs. Substance abuse can impair judgment, fuel violent and criminal behavior, and expose individuals and communities to serious security risks."

He encouraged anyone facing drug issues to seek help instead of letting substance abuse lead them into crime.

The police boss also warned officers involved in such operations to act professionally. He said they should not use raids or arrests as a way to extort, intimidate, or harass people for money. Any officer caught engaging in such behavior will face disciplinary action.
