Police save four kidnap victims in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has rescued four people who were kidnapped. This happened after a well-planned operation by police officers and other security groups.

The police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, shared this news in a statement on Friday.

Ikoedem said the victims were taken on July 30 at around 10:40 pm. Armed men in vigilante uniforms carried out the attack.

The statement mentioned, "The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued four kidnapped hostages following a coordinated rescue operation by its operatives and other security stakeholders."

"On 30th July, 2026, at about 10:40 p.m., information was received that armed men, numbering about three and dressed in vigilante uniforms, had blocked the Ugbokun axis before the military checkpoint along the Lagos/Benin Expressway with logs of wood and leaves. The hoodlums attacked motorists and abducted some occupants into the forest."

When the police got the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Okada Division quickly put together a team. This team included police officers, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), local hunters, and other security partners to go to the scene.

The team started a serious search operation in the bush, using drones to help in the rescue mission. The pressure they put on the criminals made them run away, leaving behind their victims: Muritala Babatunde, Bello Aminat, Otor Prince, and Yeiyah Gift. The victims were rescued safely and have gone back to their families.

The police command praised the courage and skills shown by everyone involved in the operation. They also assured the public that they are committed to fighting kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

The command promised that efforts are still ongoing to catch the suspects who escaped. They urged the public to keep supporting the police by sharing timely and useful information.
