The Oyo State Police Command said on Wednesday that they have started looking into the attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Office in Ogbomoso. Armed men reportedly stole a rifle, ammunition, and other valuables during the raid.

Reports show that the attack took place on Tuesday night at the immigration office located along the Ogbomoso, Ilorin Expressway, close to the NNPC filling station.

A source mentioned that the attackers came while business was still happening at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market. “The attackers stormed the facility and overpowered the officers on duty. During the attack, the officers were dispossessed of their firearms,” the source said.

The source also reported that the gunmen fled the area under the cover of darkness.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement from Ibadan, the state capital. He said the command had started a thorough investigation into the attack.

The statement read, “The Oyo State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service Passport Office in Ogbomoso following an invasion by armed hoodlums on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

“Initial information available to the Command indicates that around 8:45 p.m., the officer in charge of the facility raised an alarm after armed men invaded the premises by climbing over the rear fence.

“Upon receiving the distress report, immediate support was sent, including officers from the Command Monitoring Unit and surveillance teams, to the scene for assistance and assessment.”

According to the police, early findings showed that about five armed men accessed the premises through a rear fence that borders a large bush area. “The hoodlums reportedly attacked two immigration officers on night duty, assaulting them with sticks and other dangerous weapons before making away with a G3 rifle assigned to the office, along with its ammunition.

“The suspects also stole a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery before escaping through the same route they used to enter the facility,” the statement added.

The police confirmed that the injured officers have received medical attention and are in stable condition. Ayanlade further mentioned that surveillance and tactical teams are stepping up operations in and around the area, searching nearby bushes and suspected escape routes to catch the attackers and recover the stolen items.

“Intelligence assets and informants have been activated to gather useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects. All relevant investigative and operational resources have been deployed to ensure quick progress in the case,” he said.

He added that the command is working closely with the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies to ensure they catch those responsible.

The statement also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Olugbemiga Abimbola, had instructed all operational and intelligence units to use every available resource to track down the suspects.

It added, “The CP and the Oyo State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service have set up a joint task team to improve coordination and enhance efforts to catch all those involved.”

Abimbola reassured residents of Ogbomoso and its surroundings that the command is committed to protecting lives and property and stopping criminals from gaining a foothold in the state.

The command also urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.

“Useful information that could help ongoing investigations may also be reported through the Command’s emergency channels. All information received will be treated with the highest confidentiality,” the statement added.
