The Sokoto State Police have stopped a bandit attack on Tsabre community in Isa Local Government Area. They recovered two rocket launchers and other items left behind by the attackers who fled.
This event took place around 1am on Friday. The armed men came into the village and started shooting, which scared the residents.
Ahmad Rufa’i, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared this information in a statement on Friday.
He said that the Divisional Police Officer in Isa received a distress call and quickly sent tactical teams, including members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Violent Crime Response Unit, to face the attackers.
The police engaged the bandits in a gun battle, which forced them to run into a nearby forest.
“The tactical teams fought the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel that lasted for some time. Because of the better firepower and tactical positioning of the police, the bandits were overpowered and had to escape into the nearby forest with some casualties,” Rufa’i said.
After the fight, the police searched the surrounding bushes and found two rocket launchers along with two empty AK-47 magazines.
They also recovered a Techno keypad phone without a battery, a touch light, an Army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals, and a rain jacket.
The Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Shaffa, praised the officers for their quick action and bravery during the operation.
Shaffa confirmed the command’s promise to protect lives and property in the state. He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious persons or activities to the police.
The CP also asked residents to inform the police if they see anyone with gunshot wounds seeking medical care, as the search for the fleeing attackers continues.
