Officers from the Obalende Division of the Ogun State Police Command have stopped a suspected plan to kidnap a Chinese man.

The officers also arrested two suspects linked to a ₦50 million ransom plan.

The suspects, named Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were caught on June 9, 2026. This happened after police received intelligence about a possible kidnapping along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police spokesperson, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.

The statement said the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende quickly organized surveillance and operational teams after getting reliable information about the planned crime.

“Acting on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised operatives of the Division, including the Surveillance Team, to the identified axis, where the suspects were promptly intercepted and arrested, thereby thwarting the execution of the planned crime,” the statement said.

Initial investigations showed that the suspects were planning to kidnap a Chinese man and demand a ransom of ₦50 million.

The police also revealed that one of the suspects, Onwuemena, used his job as an interpreter and driver at the victim’s company to help with the kidnapping plan.

“Further findings showed that Chinedu Onwuemena, who worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, allegedly exploited his position to facilitate the criminal plan,” the statement added.

The police said investigations found that the suspects worked with another person who is now on the run. They are trying to catch the fleeing suspect and uncover the whole plan behind the kidnapping.

The case has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their quick action. He appreciated the professionalism and alertness of those involved in the operation.

He also talked about how important timely intelligence is for preventing crime and improving security in the state.

Ojajuni assured residents and business people that the police are committed to intelligence-led policing and preventing crime.

He encouraged the public to stay alert and keep sharing useful information with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities in their areas.
