The Nigeria Women Football League has picked Port Harcourt as the host city for the 2026 Premiership Super Six. This is the first time the tournament will take place in Rivers State.
According to the league's statement, the event will run from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026. Six clubs will compete for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Modupe Shabi, the NWFL Chief Operating Officer, said choosing Port Harcourt shows the Rivers State Government's support for women’s football. She also mentioned the successful hosting of the league's Annual General Assembly last year.
The Super Six tournament will have the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season. They will play in a round-robin format, with each team playing five matches over nine days.
Teams qualified for the competition include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and newcomers Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has seen four different winners in the last five editions. Rivers Angels won in 2021, Bayelsa Queens took titles in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens won in 2023, and Edo Queens were champions in 2024.
The league has advised all participating clubs to follow the competition rules and guidelines before the championship starts. The Super Six will decide Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers. This is for a spot in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Teams are to arrive on Friday, June 5. That day will also feature the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting. Matches will take place on June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days in between. The tournament will wrap up with a trophy presentation ceremony.
