Edo Queens Football Club has been crowned the 2026 champions of the Nigeria Women Football League. They clinched the title on Sunday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State after finishing first in the Super Six competition.
In their last match against Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens managed a 0-0 draw. This result gave them a total of 10 points from five matches.
The team from Benin won three matches, drew one, and lost one during the tournament.
Bayelsa Queens also ended up with 10 points but had a lower goal difference, putting them in second place.
Nasarawa Amazons, who defeated Edo Queens in the first match, came third with eight points. They played a goalless draw against Rivers Angels, who finished fourth.
In another match on the final day, FC Robo and Abia Angels drew 1-1. Abia Angels ended the competition in fifth place with four points, while FC Robo finished last with three points.
Coach Moses Aduku spoke to The PUNCH about his players’ performance in the tournament. He praised them for their efforts.
He pointed out that even after starting with a loss to Nasarawa Amazons, the players showed great spirit to win the Super Six title. He said, "It has been a rewarding season for us after winning the trophy. Despite losing the first game, they picked themselves up and did Edo proud. I commend them."
The coach also thanked the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Council, Amadin Enabulele, and the people of Edo State for their support, which he said helped the team succeed.
Enabulele told The PUNCH that this win is more than just a trophy. It is also about finding and developing talents that will make the state proud. He expressed gratitude to Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing him to serve, promising to always give his best.
He said, "I am happy we have won. The victory is beyond winning the trophy; it is about discovering and nurturing talents for the benefit of the state."
