Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Edo Queens are on a winning streak in the WAFU-B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers. They claimed a solid 3-1 victory over Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The match took place at the Stade du 4 Août and started off exciting. Both teams created chances and went back and forth in the first half.

Edo Queens broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Former Robo Queens player Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scored with a powerful header after a great run down the wing and a perfect cross.

ASEC Mimosas did not back down and kept creating chances. But they were unable to convert those chances into goals. Edo Queens took advantage of a defensive mistake and doubled their lead just four minutes before halftime.

Doorshima Tarnum was in the right spot in the 41st minute. She tapped the ball into an empty net after a well-coordinated team play.

With a two-goal lead, Edo Queens went into the break feeling confident. But ASEC Mimosas returned in the second half with a strong desire to get back into the game.

Their efforts paid off in the 83rd minute when Doudou Yeti scored, giving ASEC Mimosas a glimmer of hope for a comeback.

Edo Queens kept their cool and did not let the defending champions build any momentum. Instead, they restored their two-goal lead when Oluebube Umajiaku scored 11 minutes before the end, sealing a 3-1 win.

With this result, Edo Queens now have six points from two matches. They are in a strong position to move on from Group B and aim for another spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.

For ASEC Mimosas, this loss puts their chances of qualification in jeopardy. The Ivorian team now faces the risk of being eliminated early from the competition.
